Meet LEFRANC Ronel

"I like hearing the story of people who have struggled in one way or another to succeed in life. Their stories give me more strength and courage not to fail under hard and difficult moments."

What inspires you?

As many people in life,my inspiration does not come from a specific fact or person. I take my inspiration from a wide range of facets of life specifically positive things. However, I am mostly inspired by successful people both in poor and developed countries that happen to break social barriers to climb from a very low level to a higher one and specifically by using education. I like determinate people that has a dream and work for it. Indeed, I like hearing the story of people that has struggled in one way or another to succeed in life. Their stories give me more strength and courage not to fail under hard and difficult moment.

Tell us about an issue that matters to you and how you became aware and involved.

As someone from an underdeveloped country like Haiti, I am aware of a wide variety of issues among others environmental degradation, education, water and sanitation and health. As a matter of fact, due to their importance and degree of occurrence, they all have an importance to my eyes. But, the tow most vibrant issues in particular that matter the most to me are : basic water and sanitation problem and education . Good access to sanitation and safe drinking water are known very basic needs of people of a country. However, in Haiti, every year thousands of children are dead from water related diseases. This is specifically due to the very low access to clean drinking water and lack of good living sanitation system. The problem has become even worse recently with the cholera outbreak that killed thousands of people in the country adult included. It is so sad to see that people are still dying from curable and preventable diseases. As regard to education, that is probably one of the biggest problems of the country’s poverty. First of all, we have copied a non adapted education system that is like spoiling people in some aspects. And the saddest thing is that millions of children still can not afford even primary school. As most people might share this idea, I do think that “education is the key of success” and that everyone has the right to primary education as mentioned in our constitution. As a matter of fact, we might wonder, what is the future of a country when the kids who are the future of the country cannot attend school?

Share your perspectives on what makes a good leader.

I think a leader is someone who has high levels of optimism and self confidence, innovative and has the ability to anticipate things and foresee. A good leader is someone who has a good ability to communicate, the ability to acknowledge and change and the ability to listen.
